The room thundered with rapturous applause yesterday as the Insurance and Takaful Day celebration
marked a momentous occasion with the launch of Brunei Insurance Takaful Association (BITA) at the Orkid Garden hotel.
The event themed, “A new beginning, for a better future” was held to raise public awareness on the Insurance and Takaful industry as well as its products and services.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of “My Takaful and Insurance Book” which was prepared in collaboration with BITA and Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).
The booklet provides vital information and basic understanding of general concepts in Takaful including the Mudharabah Model, Motor Takaful, basic insurance terms as well as the differences between conventional Insurance and Takaful.
The event kickstarted with a doa selamat which was then followed by a speech from the Chairman of BITA Hj Osman Hj Md Jair who welcomed and thank everyone for their presence. “This insurance day was established at the 23rd Conference of the East Asia Insurance Congress (EAIC) in Brunei with the aim of enhancing recognition and confidence in Insurance in East Asia,” said the Chairman.

He also said that BITA represented the country in the recent 27th EAIC meeting in Taipei.
Meanwhile, the Guest of Honour and Managing Director of AMBD Yusof Hj Abd Rahman said that AMBD and BITA need to work closely to facilitate the growth in the insurance infrastructure and services.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate AMBD, all Takaful operators and insurance companies and other stakeholders who made the book possible. However, the effort does not stop here and we must continue to enhance collaboration amongst ourselves,” he said.
